‘Recognisable’ collectables for footy fans

This is the closest to the real thing many young fans will come to some footy stars but supermarket giant Coles has partnered with the AFL to develop a range of collectable figures.

Bringing footy heroes from the stadium to the supermarket aisles, the AFL micro-figures launched this week.

Standing 4.5cm in height and selected from all 18 AFL clubs, there are 30 football figures up for grabs.

Each is claimed to capture the distinct characteristics of some of greatest AFL players of our time, from the tattooed-sleeve of Dane Swan, to the perfect hair of Trent Cotchin and Nic Naitanui’s dreadlocks.

Collectors are also in with a chance to open the packet and find one of five rare and suited-up Brownlow Medal winning figures, including Chris Judd, Dane Swan, Gary Ablett, Jobe Watson, and current Australian of the Year, Adam Goodes.

Coles Marketing and Store Development Director, Simon McDowell says, “We are committed to supporting the community and skills development partnerships of schools and indigenous programmes.”

“To kick off the AFL season, we are offering our customers their footy heroes in the first AFL micro-figure collection.”

General Manager of Retail at producers TPF, Giles Musker, says, “We spent more than 12 months developing the figures and worked hard to ensure the player likeness was spot on.”

Fans will also be able to create their own micro football field, by collecting 42 oval puzzle pieces.
