Apparel and footwear up, says ASGA

The latest release of ASGA market survey figures reveal that apparel sales grew by 2.5 percent in 2008, with a stronger second half.

Footwear sales bounced back last year, over a softer 2007, with the growth coming from the athleisure category. Running was slightly down, cross training remained steady and the walking category grew. Football boots grew by 23.7 percent, with the total dollar sales of $400.6 million, reports the Australian Sporting Goods Association.

Golf equipment and shoes declined in 2008 as did tennis and squash racquets and balls.
