ASICS launches first flagship store

ASICS has officially opened its first Australian flagship store in Sydney, joining the other majors who have long been fishing in this pond.

Set in Sydney’s home of classy retail, the QVB stores for ASICS and its streetwear heritage brand of Onitsuka Tiger, were launched with enthusiasm earlier this week.

Reports Senior Marketing Manager, Sam Chew, “The store offers customers the ultimate running experience and a sophisticated biomechanical analysis system, and brings to life the brand’s true sport positioning.”

Attended by brand ambassadors Greg Inglis (pictured with Kurt Tippett) Benji Marshall, Shannan Ponton, Jesinta Campbell (pictured home page) and guests, the new 310m2 flagship store “ delivers a unique sporting retail experience,” says Chew.

The spectacular interior design featuring futuristic metal frame and glass construction connects the store's different areas with a technological 'heart'.

It is fitted with a state of the art Foot ID system enabling staff to reveal which ASICS shoes best suit a runner's needs.

Managing Director of ASICS Oceania Allan Russell says, "The opening of the Sydney flagship store will bring a new level of running expertise and advice to runners of all levels.

“We will also showcase our full range of athletic footwear and apparel to deliver a head to toe performance story”.

Retail Manager Ian McCrae says, "Our retail concept will deliver a total brand experience.”

• Japanese sports fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger has also opened a flagship store in Sydney.

The interior of the new store was inspired by the theme modern Japan and stocks all classic and current collections of Onitsuka Tiger sneakers, apparel and accessories.

It officially opened with an event called Sneaker Unique, attended by the brand ambassadors it shares with parent ASICS along with Tim Grant and Kurt Tippett.

Sneaker Unique gave each guest the chance to be Onitsuka Tiger’s collaborator and create a pair of unique ‘kicks’ with the help of freehand graphic artists Mike Watt and Bill Hope.

Says Allan Russell, “Onitsuka Tiger’s enthusiastic fans demand complete individuality with their footwear, so we really wanted to give them the chance to make their sneakers one-of-a-kind.”
