Branson’s stunt record a push for kitesurfing
Ever the marketer, Richard Branson has pushed the kitesurfing cause along with a stunt record involving three bikini-clad girls.
Not frightened of setting a record or two himself, Branson took up a challenge from friend and champion kitesurfer Susi Mai to set the record for the most people riding a kitesurf board.
From his home on Necker Island – in the appropriately-named British Virgin Islands – he and Mai first equalled the Guinness World Records title for three people on a board, and then beat it.
Now there are thoughts about getting a bigger board and going for five up.
Branson has a raft of Guinness record credits to his name including leading 318 kitesurfers to take the title for the largest parade of kite surfers last September.
Others records and ‘fast facts’ include first hot air balloon across the Atlantic (1987), in first balloon to cross the Pacific from Japan to Arctic Canada (1991), attempts to circumnavigate the globe by balloon (with Per Lindstrand and Steve Fossett, 1995-1998), and oldest person to kitesurf across the English Channel (2012).
He also has the most followers on LinkedIn.
