Cantrill plans December launch for superstore

Local sporting hero and long-time retailer Shane Cantrill will launch a new sports superstore in Orange under the Sportsman's Warehouse banner.

Cantrill will become the first Sportsman's Warehouse franchise partner, merging his considerable retail experience with the resources of the chain launched from the ACT and  expanding through regional NSW and into Shepparton in Victoria.

The deal means that the existing Sportsmans Warehouse and Shane Cantrill Sports stores in Orange will close, with the company's first concept store opening on December 1.

Cantrill's Sportscene store in Bathurst will also be re-badged as Sportsman's Warehouse.

The new Orange store  will measure 800 sqm store with a central hub to provide product information  and details on  local sporting clubs and schools.

The two new Sportsman's Warehouse franchises together will employ around 23 people.

Cantrill, a former representative-level rugby player for NSW’s central west and participant in many other sports, opened his first store in Bathurst 15 years ago.  The Orange store opened five years ago.

Born and raised in Orange, Shane and his wife Margot have three boys and have lived in Bathurst for more than 20 years.

• Sportsman's Warehouse franchise development manager, Justin Smedley, says the central west is an ideal place to launch the company's new approach.

“We've been working on the development of a franchise model for Sportsman's Warehouse for some time.“
