Champ surfers nominated too

Australia’s two top surfers Stephanie Gilmore and Joel Parkinson are on the shortlist for the Laureus action sports award of the year.

They are competing with Australian Felix Baumgartner who broke the sound barrier during his record skydive freefall of 39km.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognise sporting achievement during the calendar year 2012, are among the premier honours on the international sporting calendar.

The winners, as voted by the Laureus World Sports Academy, made up of 46 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen, will be unveiled at a awards ceremony staged in Rio de Janeiro on March 11.
