New team acquires Statewide Sports

There are new faces at Statewide Sports. After almost three decades, the experienced team of Mick Matula and Bruce Leggatt (pictured) are retiring and the Brisbane-based company has new owners.

Businessmen and keen sportsmen, Philip Robinson and Duncan Ree have acquired the business which has exclusive distribution of the German Uhlsport football and the Kempa handball brand in Australia.

Statewide is agent for several major brands in Queensland including Skins, Eyeline, Acme and Mikasa.

Philip Robinson says the duo have run multiple businesses and look forward to reinvigorating relationships as they continue to work with existing customers and seek new opportunities in the sports business marketplace to continue to grow Statewide.

Mick Matula and Bruce Leggatt, along with their families, have brought long experience in wholesaling, the sports industry and football to their business and now plan to put their feet up.

Says Matula, "Golf will be on the agenda for both of us along with spending time with grand-kids. I will go fishing and plan major walking tours plus a cruise with friends on the French canals."
