Shoplifting warnings in peak season

The Australian retailers Association has issued a warning on losses from theft to retailers nation-wide.

Issuing a statement praising the Tasmanian legislation to cut shoplifting which is modeled on that current in NSW, chief executive Russell Zimmerman warns on the significant increase in retail theft always faced in the festive season.

"Annual retail industry turnover amounts to over $310 billion across Australia and in Tasmania alone, retail turnover is $6.1 billion plus.

"With an approximate loss of $216 million from theft in Tasmania, this is an ongoing concern for the retailers and the industry, " he says.
